Creamy Grits

CREAMY GRITS. Need I say more? These creamy grits are a fantastic start to any busy morning. Simple and delicious without any of the fat or sodium, give these creamy grits a try!

1 cup of five minute grits
3 cups water
¾ cup of low-fat milk
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon of black pepper
¼ cup of low-fat cheddar cheese


  1. In a small pot, bring the water, milk, and salt to a boil.
  2. Slowly stir the grits, salt, and black pepper into the boiling mixture. Stir continuously and thoroughly until grits are well mixed. Stir the grits for one minute after completely added.
  3. Cover with a lid, lower the temperature to simmer, and cook for approximately 7 minutes, stirring often.
  4. Stir in the cheese and serve.

Pro-tip: If you want grits to cool fast (less than 5 minutes), then serve it on a plate or saucer. Grits can stay hot upwards of 30 minutes in a bowl.
